Velvet is back

I've had a longtime love affair with velvet. My Maw Maw likes to tell the story of when I first fell in love with vibrant colors and velvet at age two...it all began with an absolutely magnificent 8 foot yellow/gold sofa with clean lines and rectangular pillows.

At age two I used to go in to her living room, stretch out on the sofa and just pat it with my hands until I fell asleep. By four, I had already verbally expressed my desire to have the sofa one day when I had a home. As the years have passed, we always joke about "Amy's gold sofa." When we talk she gives me updates about how she never lets people sit on it with food or how she keeps the shades drawn so that the fabric doesn't fade, etc...There was a period of time that I thought about recovering the sofa...but now I've decided to stay true to my roots and keep it velvet. Thank goodness velvet is back in style!

While I don't have a picture of our gold velvet sofa, I thought I would show some of my favorite velvet pieces that I have collected on my computer over the years (I keep these to remind myself how chic and timeless velvet is)...if you check out my Pinterest page, you will see that I have an entire board dedicated to velvet!
Velvet Sofa
This velvet sofa (featured in Southern Living magazine) is very similar to my Maw Maw's. Love the pop of color it adds to the room, its clean lines and the oversized kidney pillow.

Velvet Pair of Chairs
I just A D O R E these chairs. They look somewhat similar to a pair that I got for $50 at Scott's Antique market in January with my mother in law...stay tuned to see what I do to those...I will warn you, their current state is so wild that my husband put them in "time out" in the basement...but I have big plans for them!

Velvet Pillow Gradient
Notice how the pillows are in a gradient of one color, I am completely obsessed with this idea and cannot wait to do it when I have Maw Maw's gold sofa. Not only are they chic, but I have a feeling they are lovely to lounge on.

Velvet Sofa
I have loved everything about this picture since I saw it several years ago in Elle Decor...I'm infatuated with the dark gray/navy velvet sofa (my gold one may eventually turn into something similar) I love the pop of color in the pillows and the gallery wall is delightful, too!

Velvet Dining Room Bench & Chair
I recently found a set of antique french style chairs on a Scott's trip with Jill (more to come on those) but I am dying to recover them (someday) in a burnout velvet. Pretty soon my whole dream home will be covered in shades of gold, rich peach, navy and grey velvet. My poor husband...

Velvet Pair of Sofas
I do love a pair of matching/facing sofas...especially when they are grey velvet. With such a dark, subtle color, I love that they have mixed in pops of bright color in the punch patterned pillows and the blueish built-ins. Brilliant!
