Suzanne Kasler--a southern design icon

my signed copy of her Inspired Interiors book!

Today I was lucky enough to be invited to a Dine & Design luncheon at the fabulous Columbus Museum by a dear friend. I was even more lucky because one of my design idols--Suzanne Kasler--was speaking. What a dream come true! She was absolutely as chic as she could be and just filled with tips and knowledge from her vast experiences.

I am going to post a few pictures of her work that she talked about today. What an inspiration!

Maybe one of my favorites...this may have been my first tearsheet for my inspiration binder years ago as an intern. Love the chairs and the artwork. Also, just love the idea of the beautiful rose colored walls!

Suzanne talked about how she had to make her own fabric for this fabulous pair of chairs because she could not find a stripe wide enough. Just brilliant. I'm mainly in love with the sofa detail...maybe my velvet sofa will one day get this lovely raspberry trim.

How  fantastic are these drapes? and I am so inspired by the chairs.

More chair love here! I love the bone, white palette with the pops of color.

A few takeaways from todays luncheon:
1. Collect, collect, collect. Find something that you love, collect it and keep it/style it all in one place to really make an impact.
2. If you see something in your travels that you love, get it! (I am a firm beleiver in doing this but not sure my husband agrees). You can always find a place for it later!
3. Mix and match pops of color with a simple, sophisticated white palette.
4. Always play up the architecture of your home.
5. If you have something that is beautiful and that you love that no longer fits in your design style, change it up. Suzanne talked about a homeowner who had beautiful dining chairs that were too formal for her new table. Solution: paint them bone white!

I hope you are as inspired as I am by her work. What a treat!
